Overview

CanUBuild is a London-first planning feasibility checker with beta coverage elsewhere in England. This policy explains how we process information when you use the site, including address searches, project inputs, payments, feedback, analytics, and advertising.

What we process

  • Address search and selection: when you search for a property, we process the address details you enter and the property identifier returned by our address-matching provider to show you the correct location. We store completed postcode lookups and selected addresses to understand demand and improve search quality. Only administrators can view this search history; records older than 90 days are deleted daily.
  • Project inputs: when you run a check, we process the project type and inputs you provide (e.g., dimensions) to produce a feasibility output.
  • Report activity: we record when a result page is viewed and when a PDF report is generated for download. Administrators can see this activity alongside the property address and project type. Activity records older than 90 days are deleted daily.
  • Account data (optional): if you create an account, we process your email address and any information you submit in your profile.
  • Usage and device data: we use analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the site performs.
  • Result feedback and research: if you rate a result or leave a comment, we store that response with the relevant check. If you volunteer for an interview, we also store the contact email you provide so we can arrange it.
  • Payments: We are not currently taking payments, and PDF reports are free. We keep payment and report-unlock identifiers from earlier Stripe purchases, but we have never stored full card details.

When you ask us to email a result

We store your email address, the check it relates to, and whether you asked for occasional planning tips. We use it to send you that result and, only if you asked, occasional guidance. You can unsubscribe from any email. We do not sell your details or pass them to third parties.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure traffic and improve the site. Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies to understand page views and interactions. Our property-search events sent to Google Analytics contain search type and activity counts, not the address or postcode entered.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We may show ads using Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to personalise ads, limit repeated ads, and measure effectiveness. You can learn more about controlling ad personalisation in your Google account and via your browser settings.

Data retention

We retain information only as long as necessary to provide the service, troubleshoot issues, comply with legal obligations, and improve the product. Retention periods can vary depending on the type of data.

Your choices

  • You can control cookies via your browser settings.
  • You can opt out of certain personalised ads via your Google ad settings.
  • If you have an account, you can request access or deletion of account data by contacting us.
  • Customer interviews are optional; you can withdraw an interview invitation by contacting us.
